A 9-minute film showing highlights from the January 1992 Festa in Mortale

Festa di S. Antonio Abate 1992

The Festa di S. Antonio Abate is held every 17th January in Mortale.  An evening church service is held followed by a gathering of all the villagers outside the church in the piazza.  A bonfire is traditionally lit in the square and pizze fritte, bread and crustole are blessed and eaten, with a few grains of rock salt, which are symbolic of the belief that we mortals are all creatures of salt and that our souls be purified.

This short film was filmed by Ettore Forte on Friday 17th January 1992 and shows many of the old folk who are no longer with us.
