Part 1 opens with a huntsman called Giuliano passing by the village of Montalto.  As he looks down on the village, he sees the villagers having fun and dancing to traditional music.  He spots a girl and, leaving his gun outside,  he joins the party and tries to win her over after pushing another boy aside.  The traditional dancing continues but the maiden is not interested in the huntsman.

The rest of the film tells the story of Giuliano's attempts to woo the girl of his dreams but, as in many great Shakespearean works, it all ends in tragedy....or does it?
