Festa di S. Antonio Abate 1988

The Festa di S. Antonio Abate is held every 17th January in Mortale.  A church service is held followed by a gathering of all the villagers outside the church in the piazza.  A bonfire is traditionally lit in the square and pizze fritte, bread and crustole are blessed and eaten, with a few grains of rock salt, which are symbolic of the belief that we mortals are all creatures of salt and that our souls be purified.

The church service is led by Don Francesco, the Casalattico priest and you will recognise many of our long gone older generations in this film, shot by Ettore Forte on Sunday 17th January 1988.
